Your generation has been called the MySpace generation. It is obvious that you spend much more time online than previous generations, mainly because you have more access, more technology, and maybe more desire to sit at a computer screen than most others. Is this true? For you personally, how do you see yourself as a writer in the online world?
Specifically, respond by explaining how much and where you write online. Remember, no full names. First names only.

mainly I only use my computer for homework, I have better things to do than sit and stare at a screen for hours on end.

I do not agree that we are the myspace generation. Everybody has their choice to do what they want, and everybody has different hobbies. Some people like to hunt while others like to sit at home on a computer. To say that we are the myspace generation is a big statement. At schools we use computers a lot, and that can lead to us doing more at home for homework. It is not always our choice to be on a computer, but when you have homework that requires a computer, it is tough. So no, I do not think that we are the myspace generation. I have msn, but that is about the only time I ever want to spend on a computer, and that is when I am absolutely bored out of my mind.

Well I think this article is fairly acurate for a lot of kids. I am not one of those people who get on the internet and type to their friends all day long. I actually hate it when my friends do that, which most of them do sometimes. i would much rather get out and actually hang out and do something. My friend brendon did however set me up with a my-space acount. and i have yet too put anything on it other than my picture. But it is true how this generation is more online and up to date.
KEVIN
I guess you call our generation the Myspace generation because we do use alot of the technology like computers throughout high school, but its not like all of us choose to. Alot of people would much rather write out stuff but the teachers require most written pieces to be typed. So in a way we are kind of forced to use a computer at school.
KOA
what kinds of things do you write about though? is this an intelletual conversation you're having with friends, or are you just sitting talking about nothing?
Yes that is true for the most part but not everyone does want to be on the computer i do i love being on the computer when ever i can i talk to friends and send messages
Kayla
I think that our generation is online more because we have a need to be online more. No other generation has had the need to learn with the use of a computer, because they didn't have computers at their desposial like we do. I am online about five times a week for school work, mostly.
Sara
Yes, I think that its true because my friends always talk about how much they "talk" online to there friends. I don't type online much because I just can't be sitting infrot of a computer insted of being with family or friends.
David
I use the internet a lot for a lot of reasons. I like to talk to my friends. But when i say friends i don't mean the ones that i go to school with. i barely if ever talk to them online just because i see them all the time. but i have a lot of friends from out of town, that if i never talked online with them, i probably would lose any contact i currently have. it my way of keeping in touch convieniently.
Logan.
Koa, I agree with your statement that we do not choose to use computers. You said in a way we are forced to use them, I agree with that too, good work.
Jordan
I think it's mostly true because most people i know get online and get on messenger. But not everyone has access to the internet but usually still get online for email and stuff. I don't do much online writing except for public profiles like Myspace, Tagged and Bebo but thats about it.
Justin
life as we know it is going to be all about computers and internet from this day forword. So the new generation of people (myspace generation) are going to be that much ahead because they are being opened to a new generation of technology witch they will need in the future. letting the kids explore the new ways is a good thing because they'll need to have that technology from now on. REED
I think this is totally true. Me and my friends spend more time on the internet and chatting that we spend doing anything else. I guess it's not that bad. We could be going out and partying and smoking rocks instead. As far as being an online writer, I havn't really done much more that chat to my friends when I'm really bored. Yeah, pretty much.
Michael
With more available resources we use them. The computer and internet were the big thing when we were younger so of course we are going to be total computer people. It seems that if you don't know how to run a computer or bring up a search on the net and be able to find something your out of the time and you need to catch up to us. You know we look somewhat funny at people when they say "I don't know how to use a computer" possible like you grandparents. We all try and get them in the loop but eventually we fail the the last generation, they decide that the computer is too much work and just tell you to call and write them they don't want to deal with e-mail and how to get on the internet or how to bring up a msn messenger window. We may be the computer generation but all of the next generations are going to be computer generations or whatever type of computer like thing is out then.
Kira
Its true, but not for me becuase I think the internet and the computer are kind of a waste of time unless it's used for something that is going to help you.
CJ
I don’t totally agree with this, just because some kids choose not to be active and just sit at home and play around on the computer. That doesn’t mean the rest of us are 'computer nerds' I guess you could call it. This whole MySpace thing has been blown way out of proportion. Like Koa said not all of us choose to use computers its just we have the technology there why not use it?
TJ
It's true that we have better tecnology, but I don't enjoy sitting at a computer for hours. I rather be out side doing something eles, but alot of teens do chat on the online I just don't have time to and I don't have the desire to.
I have never written online. I mostly do assigments for classes.
Mary
Where does the "NEED" to be online come from? What is the draw to being online and chatting or writing to friends?
Also, there are probably a million things you can do online (purchase goods, listen to music, download music, etc.). Is chatting the only thing you do?
I am not online very much but i know that i am a minority in the overall population of kids my age. I don't think i have ever really written online before. my only exception was last year when i was writting a comment like this, for a class.
amanda
I really don't spend very much time on the computer. Most of all the time that I am on the computer is for school work or typing papers. I will occasionally get onto my e-mail but usually when I do it is to get an assignment or a paper that I have started at school and e-mailed to myself so that I can finish it. Personally I think that spending all of that time on the internet in chat rooms is a big waste of time. Chat rooms such as "My Space" and MSN, etc. are all places where most people go to talk about others, cause some kind of Drama, or get the latest on who is doing who, what, or why, and who said what about who. I have seen "My Space" before and all that I saw was all of skimpy pictures that people have posted of themselves and then people who comment on them. It all seems a little bit dangerous because of how broad, open, and world wide the on-line activities are.

Victoria said that there are better thing to do than stare at a computer all day, and I completly agree. And another thing, there is so much bad stuff on the internet it is best to spend as little time on it as possible. a lot of kids spend all day in front of computers munching. and we are wondering why our generation is also the most overweight
Kevin
Good point jordan, I agree with you
CJ
You dont have to have a public profile on the net about you to be using the internet just getting on and being there makes us the generation that we are.
Kira
I agree with Victoria because I only use my computer for homework but other then that I dont want to sit in front of a computer insted of doing something fun and that every body can get invalved with.
David
It is true that we have a choice to be on the computer or not, but the school work we do today is mostly on computers. We don't use white out because we messed up on our final draft in pen, we use the backspace key because we messed up on our final draft. Some people are on the computer too much, but we are on the computer more as a generation then any other generation before us.
Sara
MySpace generation would be an accurate nickname for teens today. Alot of people spend there time on computers with e-mail but now it is even more popular to waste time chatting and on web sites like My Space. These sites can in no doubt be useful and fun keeping up with old friends and just friends in general, but must and need to be used in moderation. Unhealthy relationships can form between two friends who barley even know each other. In People magazine yesterday I read astory of a girl who had a boyfriend who killed her parents. He was 18 and she was 14 no one really knew how they met or even how they knew each other. A friend later released that they had "hooked up" over MySpace. I'm not saying becuase your involved with myspace your going to be in something like this, I just think people can get overboard on how much constructive time they spend and need to be more aware of who they are talking to.
-Kelly
I really don't spend that much time on the internet because there is really no point to sit in front of a computer screen ALL DAY!, I would much reather be outside fishing or hunting then be stuck inside on the computer. But I know that most kids live in the city so they really can't go outside. And some time here probably within the next ten or years or so it is going to be all about the internet and the computer and so more and more teenagers are getting on the computer to the "myspace" thing so that they can talk to their friends. I am not saying it ios a bad thing I think it is ok that teenagers are being opened to more and more technology.

I think it is true that we use the internet alot in this generation. When the creaters of msn and myspace made there catting websites, all of the teens and kids clinged on to them and use them every day. Personaly i am always on msn chatting with friends when i could be doing something construtive. So I think all of this new tecnology has changed alot of things.
ZACK
when i go online most of the time i go to myspace.com. tons of people go there, its like a whole community of people. or i might check my e-mail on hotmail.com. those are most likly the two hotspots when it comes to teenagers and writing online. i know that if i have to write a thank you to a grandparent i always do it via email when i can. its so much more convenient for me to just wirte a quick email than mailing a card. the internet has become a hub-bub of activity in last few years. you can find anything or anyone, but the most used sites are the ones you can get in contact with friends and family. thats why i love to get on myspace and hotmail. and why other people lilke to get on those sites as well.
i dont think that we sit at a computer more than anyone else. i think since we grew up with it, we are just use to it. unlike the baby boomers. i know tons of older people who do nothing but sit at a computer and order stuff, turn in grades, or just shop around. we might be a little more knowledgeable about computers and the internet, but we certainly arent the only ones using it.
-morgan
For better or worse?
Kevin said that there is so much bad things on the net and people still spend hours on end writing back and forth between eachother and not getting out side the go HUNTING, playing soccer or fun family things instead of being on the net ALL DAY LONG.
David
I agree that our generation does need to be on the internet more than previous ones did becuse of the information that is there but i don't think that kids really need to spend alot of time talking to people online if they live close couldn't you get out and do something more and talk with your freind face to face. Although i think being able to talk online is a good way to stay in contact with people that don't live close anymore.
amanda
Koa, i agree one hundred percent on the fact that the use of a computer is something we have to do, regardless of if we want to or not. I have turned in hand written papers and got points taken off because of that fact that it was written.
After reading so many of our classes comments i think that where u live has a lot to do with your internet activities. We live in a small hick town. And most of our class said they would rather be out doing something. I Think that kids in bigger cities are online a lot more.
kevin
I agree with what Jordan said. There are tons of kids that i know that have better things to do. There are some kids that are working to earn money and don't have time to chat. I know that i dont have time to chat i'm to busy taking care of my horses and working.
Mary
I agree with Koa's statement because alot of kids have a chose to use a computer or not to use one. And i know that alot of kids would rather go hunting or fishing then to sit on a conmputer for long periods of time.
DJ
I would have to agree with you Tierra. MySpace seems to be a place of gossip and where roomers start. It seems like a show off place for people to put there so called "hott" pictures of themselves to get people to notice them. Its actually pretty lame.
-Kelly
i disagree with kira's comment about older people and how they think computers are too inconvenient. i have an 80 year old grandma that wont stop bugging me on my email. she sends one every other day. although i do think there are older people who dont want to try new things and just want things to stay how they use to. but they need to get on the horse and learn because you wont be able to avoid it all your life.
-morgan
Koa is right. Because of the rise in our technology, not only kids are using them, but teachers too. i've heard of many teachers that post all the students homeworks assignments on the internet. in order for kids to do them, they have to get on. more and more things require us to use the technology that we have. and when we use it, people try to upgrade it, pulling us deeper into the craziness of technology. we have built our own cage and thrown away the key.
Logan
I totally agree with logans comment. Most of the people i talk to one the internet are friends that dont live here. I talk to a few that do but mostly they all live out of lagrande.

People spend a lot of time sitting at the computer ( i also do) just chatting with friends and browsing the internet. The new favortie website i would have to say is My Space. People spend so much time and effort into it, its almost Ridiculous, like if you really sit and think about it. Us young kids are opened up to way more than what the older people were used to when they were kids. As time goes on its going to get worse. More and More technology is going to be coming out and kids younger and younger are going to be experiencing a lot more than what we have now. I don't see it as a Huge deal! I mean it helps kids by just being on it all the time to learn how to use the computer and what not. I personally love to just sit and be lazy and talk to friends, do homework and browse the internet. I also mostly just talk to my firends that live outa town, its cheaper and easier. I think the need came from the town, honestly this town is so boring what else would you have to do on a rainy day or your bored? when you have the chance to use it.... why would u pass it up. I mean even if you don't use it like 24/7 like a lot of kids do. Its helpful to use them i think.
Bailey
I have to agree with tierra, i honestly think that myspace (in general) is a place where girls, AND guys like to just write non true stuff about themselfs put sick(sometimes) pictures up and get praised for them, and also gossip about a lot of other people. and all the crap they say about themselfs they like people to think they are something their not. But there is another side to it, i have myspace, and i've connected to a lot of old friens that moved away in like elementary school. To sum people its just about how they look and how they want people to think about them. But for some its not.
Bailey
I really don't get on my computer anyways. I use it for writing papers and essays. I totally agree with victoria that I have better thing to do than looking at a screen for hours on end. I like the use of being online to do rescearch, but other than that I rarely get on.

I would have to say that that's true. I am on the computer a lot! I also have a lot of sports and things that i'm into to so it's not to big of a deal. I think technology has come to a much higher level for us, and we really wan to take advantage of it.
